KMEA Hall of Fame goes Digital
The KMEA Hall of Fame section of the KMEA website has been
missing most pictures and bios since the website was started.
KMEA Historian Bryan Kirk devoted much time to preparing digital
copies of these items from the former display boards. One particular
problem that drove this change was the year-round location of the
Hall of Fame boards. Friends University had provided permanent
wall space for the display boards; however, it was in a hallway with
west-facing windows. The photos of our Hall of Famers were fading
away, slowly giving in to the effects of sunlight and time.
With this digital material, we now have a new Hall of Fame section on the KMEA website. To access the main page, go to www.ksmea.org/awards/hof. All bios and photos are now located within the new Hall of Fame Gallery of Members located online at www.ksmea.org/hof. In addition to the Gallery mentioned above, we also have a new display version which was used as digital signage at the Century II Convention Center during the 2014 In-Service Workshop. This display pulled "live" data from our web server, including events from the ISW schedule, as well as an announcement marquee scrolling along the bottom which contained pre-programmed content. ![]() Digital signage display outside the WichitaTix box office

Century II attempted to boot up display screens in the Concert Hall lobby areas, but there was a problem with the system channels which prevented the display from coming online in those locations. It is our understanding that Century II will be expanding this system to cover more areas within the facility, so we hope to take advantage of that capability in 2015. Below is a smaller version of the digital signage display. There are 102 Hall of Fame profiles, with each slide currently set at increments of 18 seconds for a full run-time of 30m:36s. These profiles contain short bios due to space constraints. To read the full bios, visit the Hall of Fame on the KMEA website, linked above. Anyone interested in setting up a "live" KMEA Hall of Fame display at their own school or music event is invited to contact me at the email address above for set-up instructions. Return to top |
