We would like to recognize the recipients of our "Outstanding Educators" awards for this year. Receiving the middle school award is Zebulon Tiedeman, who teaches middle level band, middle level jazz band and assists with the high school band in Liberal. Debra Lewis is our high school award recipient; she is the vocal music instructor at Hoisington. Our elementary award recipient is Nancy Green, who teaches in Scott City. The "Outstanding Administrator" award will be presented to David Ediger, assistant principal and athletic director at Cimarron High School/Jr. High. Congratulations to all!
On Saturday, November 7, 2015, the middle school honor band, high school honor jazz band, and high school honor choir/band auditions will be held at Dodge City Middle School. The middle school band clinician will be Johanna Cox from Liberty Memorial Central Middle School in Lawrence, Kansas, and Steve Leuth from Barton Community College will direct the high school jazz band.
The high school honor choir and high school honor band will rehearse and perform on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at the Dodge City High School. Our high school honor choir clinician will be Matthew Montague, the Coordinator of Music Education and Associate Professor of Music Education at Pittsburg State University. The high school honor band clinician will be Dr. John W. Taylor, Professor of Music at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas.
On December 5, 2015, at Dodge City High School, district instrumental directors will meet at 9:00 AM and vocal directors will meet at 10:00 AM to discuss new State KMEA information and other district business. Our annual Southwest District business meeting will take place at 1:00 PM. Please attend!
This year will be the first year for combining our Middle Level Honor Choir and our Elementary Honor Choir festival for a joint concert. The concert will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Dodge City Middle School. Jason Sickel, Choral Director at Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, Kansas will be our Middle Level conductor and Janie Brokenicky of Kansas State University will be our conductor for the Elementary Honor Choir. A district meeting of elementary and middle level music educators will also take place.
