The 2016 KMEA Composition Competition featured two winners, with both entries being performed at the 2016 In-Service Workshop.

Scott Hershberger from Maize High School performed his piano solo Sunlit Jewels during the opening session.

Ember Dreams, submitted by Keaton Conrad from Olathe Northwest High School, was performed by the Fort Hays State University Concert Choir.
