Hello everyone!
It was wonderful seeing everyone at KMEA. The number of collegiate
students who attend keeps growing, and it is exciting seeing so many
members taking advantage of the conference. We also had great
attendance at the collegiate board meeting at the end of the conference,
with representation from nine colleges. We discussed ideas on how to
improve the NAfME chapters in our state in regards to fundraising,
recruitment, community involvement, and social activities. We came up with
many ideas, and the board book will soon be up online so everyone can
look through all the different chapters' ideas.
There was a vote held at KMEA to change the term of the NAfME Collegiate
president in the bylaws from starting immediately after the convention to
starting after the June board meeting. The vote passed and now allows the
NAfME Collegiate president time between being elected and taking office to learn more
about the position.
The new NAfME Collegiate state officers were also elected and I'm proud to
announce Alissa Gomez (Friends University) as president, Caleb Austin
(Wichita State University) as Vice President, and Philip Kaul (University of
Kansas) was appointed secretary. I believe they will make a great
leadership team. They also plan on helping Kansas NAfME Collegiate
expand in social media, so be on the lookout for a Kansas
NAfME Collegiate Twitter account and Facebook page.
As this year comes to a close, thanks to everyone has who has helped me
as president. It has been an incredible year. I encourage everyone to
become involved with their NAfME chapter, and later become a KMEA
member. Good luck finishing the semester strong!
