We would like to recognize the recipients of our "Outstanding Music Educator" awards for this year. The elementary honor goes to Tom Rishel of Garden City. Receiving the middle school award is Cindy Roths, who teaches K-8 vocal music at Ness City Sacred Heart. Jane Vanderhoff is our high school award recipient, and she is the director of choral music for grades 9-12 at Garden City High School. The "Outstanding Administrator" award will be presented to Mark Webb, 7-12 Activities Director and Junior High Principal at Southwestern Heights. Congratulations!
On Saturday, November 9th, the middle school honor choir, middle school honor band, high school honor jazz band, and high school honor choir auditions will be held at Dodge City Middle School. The middle school choir clinician is Justin Ediger, the middle school band clinician is Scott Freeby, and the high school jazz band will be directed by Ben Markley. The high school honor choir and the high school honor band will rehearse and perform on Saturday, December 7th at Dodge City High School. Our high school honor choir clinician will be Terry Crull of Fort Hays State University, and Pam McGowne, also of Fort Hays, will be the accompanist. The high school honor band clinician will be Craig Fuchs of Pittsburg State University. The SW/NW Orchestra will perform in the Northwest District this year, and the conductor will be David Barg from Kansas City.
On December 7th, at Dodge City High School, the instrumental directors of our district will meet at 9:00AM, and the vocal directors will meet at 10:00AM to discuss new State KMEA information as well as other district business. Our annual Southwest District business meeting will take place at 1:00PM.
The elementary choir festival will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Dodge City Middle School with Holly Taylor conducting. Also, a district meeting of elementary music educators will take place.
