I am so excited to meet you all and work with you this
year at the 2013-2014 Tri-M Mini Workshop held at
this year's KMEA In-Service Workshop. This year's
conference will be held Friday, February 28, 2014, in
the Broadview Hotel Room 105. We have a lot of fun
and exciting things to discuss, learn about, and work
on together. Just a quick reminder for the returnees
and for the new people coming to the Mini-Workshop:
This workshop is provided to your chapter at no cost.
The format for the day is below.
8:00-9:00 - Registration
9:00-9:50 - Music at the Collegiate Level
This will be a
wonderful presentation on the transition into being a
musician at the Collegiate Level. Dr. Frank Tracz,
director of Bands at Kansas State University, will be
presenting.
10:00-10:30 - Tri-M, Future Music Educators
We will
be hearing from a panel of Future Music Educators
discussing what is important to focus on during
college and relaying experiences that they have had
being a music education major.
10:30-11:00 - Tri-M Ideas and Activities Sharing
Please bring a short presentation, either verbal,
PowerPoint, or handouts, that will describe activities
that your chapter undertakes throughout the year and
fun ways to continue promoting music education in
your schools.
11:00-11:30 - Tri-M's Got Talent
The 3rd annual Tri-
M's Got Talent competition will take place again during
our Mini-Conference this year. Please bring a 2-3
minute routine/performance to share with the other
contestants of the competition. Remember, the more
the merrier, so get your chapter involved. A panel of
judges will decide who goes home with the coveted
"M"ee!!!
Registration for Conference
I am so excited to see you all at the conference,
hopefully "Mother Nature" will cooperate with us this
year and we won't have a repeat of last year!
The deadline for chapter registration is February 21,
2014.
Tri-M Scholarship
KMEA awards a $500 scholarship to a Tri-M Music
Honor Society member who is a high school senior
and who will enroll as a music education major in a
four-year Kansas college or university. A student must
be a member in good standing of his/her local Tri-M
chapter and national Tri-M to be eligible. One
scholarship will be granted from all papers submitted.
The scholarship will be presented at the KMEA
In-Service Workshop. The winning student will be notified
ahead of time; however, a student does not have to be
present in order to receive the scholarship.
Please return the Application Form with a typed essay
(250-word minimum) on your background and why you
want to major in music education. Also include a letter
of recommendation from your school Tri-M Advisor.
(Students may apply for this scholarship and the All-
