Your Advocacy Committee Working For You

This year the Advocacy Committee responded to indications that there are situations occurring in some schools that hinder positive job satisfaction. The session titled "Current Job Satisfaction and Attitudes of Kansas Music Teachers" will be presented at the annual In-service Workshop on Thursday, February 27 at 2:00 in 206 Oak. The committee will present the results of the state-wide survey on job satisfaction conducted in 2013. The advocacy committee, district and state chairs, have also scheduled a round-table discussion to bring forward topics that are important to you. Topics may include, but are not limited to Career Pathways, Budget Challenges, Teacher Evaluation, or whatever issues you feel are important for which the advocacy committee should be aware. This round table is scheduled for Friday, February 28 at 12:45 in 208 Walnut.

Following the In-service Workshop, the advocacy committee will be focused upon developing a new advocacy website with selected links and materials organized by issues that are particularly relevant for Kansas Music Educators and will provide support for these issues. The website will include specific examples of how other music educators have addressed advocacy situations and provide opportunities for you to share your strategies with other music teachers. We plan for the site to provide practical and useful materials for you to download and immediately use. When the site is ready, it will be linked to the KMEA website.
The Kansas Music Review is the official publication of the Kansas Music Educators Association,
a federated State Association of the National Association for Music Education.
