KMTA Opportunities For Students
We welcome KMEA members and your students to visit or participate in these
great activities! If you are not yet a KMTA member, many activities have a non-
member fee to enable you to enter your students. There are some wonderful
opportunities awaiting you! We KMTA members love to join you at the KMEA
In-Service Workshop! Come and sample our activities, as well!

FALL AUDITIONS
The Kansas Music Teachers Associations Fall Auditions season is upon
us. We are into the fifteenth year for the KMTA Honors Auditions. In addition
to all the audition tracks, student composition competitions exist for
elementary through young artist levels, at state and national levels. All
auditions and competitions are open to non-KMTA members.
The State Honors Auditions, November 8-9, at Washburn University, are
sponsored by Capitol Federal. Students may earn ribbons and trophies as part
of the competition. Categories of performance include pre-college (from Pre-K)
and collegiate piano and pre-college strings, as well as piano duet. New are
Chamber Music competitions for Pre-College and Collegiate ensembles.
These may include vocalists. All information is available online at

District Auditions in October are qualifiers for the State Honors Auditions.
The sites include:
- Mid-America Nazarene College in Olathe
- Kansas State University
- Fort Hays State University
- Barton County Community College in Great Bend
- Tabor College in Hillsboro
Music Teachers National Association competition tracks include:
- Composition competitions for Elementary through Collegiate and Young Artist levels.
- Piano, strings, and chamber music ensemble competitions (beginning at the junior high school level) as well as piano duets.

DISTRICT FESTIVALS
These activities are available for a variety of ages. Some may not be open
to non-member teachers, but visitors may come to sample the excitement
they generate!
- The South Central Kansas MTA's "Marshmallows & Music" outdoor

- The McPherson Area Piano Teachers League is sponsoring a Christmas
Multi-Piano Concert on December 13. Contact Brett Janssen, MAPTL

- The Wichita Music Teachers Association will have a Fall Festival "of
encouragement" on November 1-2, and Christmas recital space available for
KMTA members at Kansas Newman University on December 13 and 20. For

- The Hutchinson Area PTA will hold "Let's Fly"- Cosmosphere Concerts &

- The Kansas City MTA will host a Fall Festival for students and adults on
October 18-19 and Holiday recitals at Union Station, December 12-14. For
