North Central District Report
As I sit to write this, I pause in reflection. Trying to come up with
something inspirational can be somewhat daunting when you are not
inspired. I began to look at previous reports to see what my predecessors
had felt important to discuss in this report. Some were very inspiring;
some were not so much. All had a common theme though. Thanks.
There are several things that I can be thankful for: my health, my family, my job, my students, etc. The list seems to go on for quite awhile. So, for just a minute or two, I would like to say thanks. Thank you to those individuals who have served in this position before me, and have helped me get better at it. I especially want to thank past president Joel Gittle for his guidance. I would like to thank those teachers who have taken it upon themselves to serve in the capacity of Chair at the High School, Middle, and Elementary Levels. Our Mini-Conventions would not be successful if not for your hard work. The biggest thank you needs to go to those people who teach our students every day. That job doesn't get any easier, and yet they stick it out to make a difference in the lives of their kids. They come early, stay late, and spend tons of time outside of the regular day for clinics, concerts, football games, competitions and all sorts of things too numerous to mention. It is these people that I serve, and am thankful for the opportunity. It is my pleasure to welcome all new music educators to the North Central District and to wish the veteran teachers a great school year. The North Central District Board has been busy planning for auditions as well as preparing for our upcoming clinics and mini-conventions. Our website nckmea.org has been updated and now includes all information regarding North Central District auditions, as well as web-based entry forms and schedules. We return to Junction City High School for this year's District High School Honor Groups auditions on Saturday, November 1st, 2014. Our district's best high school musicians will gather at Manhattan High School on Saturday, December 6th, 2014, for the annual North Central District High School Music Mini-Convention. The Middle Level Clinic/Concert will be held at Junction City Middle School on Saturday, January 24th, 2015. Our final event will be the Elementary Choir Clinic/Concert on Saturday, February 7, 2015, held at Junction City Middle School. Special thanks to the Manhattan High School, Junction City High School, and Junction City Middle School music departments for preparing the facilities to host the auditions, rehearsals, and performances of our honor groups. Directors are needed from the North Central District to serve as judges. Please contact Chris Richmond, Jake Montoya, or Kevin Johnson if you are interested in adjudicating these auditions. As President, I am truly blessed with outstanding chairpersons at every level. These people need a well-deserved thank you if you get the chance to meet them.
