Tri-M
WELCOME to the 2014-2015 School year. This is a very exciting time for Tri-M. Each
year chapters throughout the state send in their applications for Tri-M chapter of the
year. This is an award that recognizes the chapter's handwork in scholarship, service
projects, leadership, and music advocacy events that they have completed throughout
the year. This year was a very exciting year due to the fact that we have a couple of
chapters that were recognized at the state and national level!
The 2013-2014 Kansas State Chapter of the Year went to the wonderful chapter at Piper High School, in Kansas City, sponsored by Shelly Cole. The students of Piper have dedicated themselves not only to enriching their personal musicianship but more importantly they have strived to spread their love of music to others in their community, school and chapter. Congratulations, Piper High School on a job well done. This year will be a year of change for Kansas Tri-M Chapters, my goal will be to start a mentoring program for those Tri-M Chapter that are ready to grow and work toward improving involvement in their organization and school. Kansas is known for being an outstanding state with many great chapters with some being National Chapter of the Year for consecutive years! In this mentoring program I hope to team up Collegiate NAfME chapters with Tri-M chapters to help support each other and share ideas and work together to build each program The following information is for a BRAND NEW event put on by Friends University called "Tuesday with Tri-M." What is Tuesday with Tri-M? "Tuesday with Tri-M" is a new event hosted by the students of the Friends University C-NAfME chapter that promotes involvement in music education affiliated organizations and encourages and excites students for their college careers in music. The event is run by students and sponsored by faculty of Friends University. It will take place from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Students will engage in question and answer panel discussions with current music students and faculty, and participate in interest sessions that will provide not only a learning opportunity for students, but also an opportunity to connect with fellow music students and Tri-M members from across the state. Students will also be able to see a recital given by college students preparing for performances. "Tuesday with Tri-M" offers:
Participating in "Tuesday with Tri-M" will give students insight to their college music careers and will also provide them with a sense of community within local their local Tri-M chapters and with students of C-NAfME.
