KMEA NAfME Collegiate Advisor
Robin Liston
State Advisor, Kansas NAfME Collegiate
Dear Colleagues,

I hope this note finds you well!

I thought I would take a moment to remind NAfME Collegiate chapters about the important events and processes for the upcoming academic year. KCOMTEPS will happen in Wichita on September 28 and 29. The ISW, also in Wichita, is set for February 26-28, 2015. Both conferences offer wonderful opportunities for our collegiate members. More informaiton will be available on the KMEA website—be sure to visit regularly for updates at ksmea.org/collegiate.

I have outlined here the basic "rules and regs" for Collegiate registrations. Please make note of the registration deadlines. To get the low collegiate member rates, students must be NAfME/KMEA members and pre-register for these events. On-site registration is available at a higher cost.

KCOMTEPS
  • The pre-registration fee is $10 for the two days and includes lunch on Monday. KMEA subsidizes an additional $10 for each student who attends, provided they are NAfME members. Payment will be expected when you pre-register.
  • The cost for faculty is $20 each.
  • Students and faculty who are not pre-registered may still attend, but will pay $20 on site and will not receive lunch.
  • Registration will be confirmed when payment is received, either at the time of online pre-registration or mailed and postmarked a week before the event.

In-Service Workshop
  • Pre-registration for collegiate NAfME members means registering online by the February 1 deadline.
  • The pre-registration fee for the ISW plus the collegiate luncheon is $15, or $10 without the luncheon.
  • Students who do not pre-register by February 1 may still attend the ISW. On-site registration is $40 and does not include the collegiate luncheon.
  • Pre-paid badge pick-up and on-site registration will occur at the collegiate table in the registration area.
  • College students who attend the ISW must be current NAfME-KMEA members.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please contact me as you think of questions. My goal is to make it possible for all interested future music educators to attend these valuable events.

Each year at the ISW, students have the chance to vote for the state collegiate officers. I encourage you to identify those of your students who show leadership potential. The details about running for office are available on the collegiate page of the KMEA website: ksmea.org/collegiate/forms.php.

Finally, I want to remind you about the Bob Hollowell Memorial Scholarship. It is awarded to a junior music education student each year at the ISW. Here is a link to the webpage with the details: ksmea.org/awards/scholarships/hollowell.php

Best wishes as you begin the new school year. Please stay in touch!
