Advocacy
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION for all music teachers in Kansas:
Please take a few minutes and respond to the KMEA Advocacy survey for all music teachers in Kansas. Deadline for submissions is December 31, 2013. Survey link: https://kstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_38010NI5YGnIaHP The survey is to identify what, if any, stresses and challenges Kansas music teachers experience in providing a quality education for our students due to recent changes made in school policies at the state and local level. The KMEA Leadership must fully understand aspects of job satisfaction and perceived causes for dissatisfaction in order to respond through professional development and advocacy efforts. It is important that all music teachers in the state respond so we get a representative sample of all school sizes, districts, grade levels, and focus areas. Your advocacy chairs, Dr. Fred Burrack and Dr. Phillip Payne will be working to identify communal needs of music teachers through a variety of advocacy efforts. Please share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns with us. We can be contacted at the email address shown at the top of this page. One way to advocate for music education is to have your students submit a short video exploring the necessity of the arts in Kansas education in the Kansas Alliance for Arts in Education video contest. (see http://ksallianceforarts.org/arts-education-video-contest/) Videos can be dramatic, journalistic, docudrama, promotional, etc. The Sky's the Limit when we have our students use their imaginations. First prize is an iPad, 2nd prize is a flat screen TV, many other prizes include free music lessons, entrance to summer music camps, tickets to musical performances, etc. The deadline is December 15, 2013. Let's hear from the students why music education in schools is so important. Return to top |
