Hello, my name is Hannah Nunnenkamp-Engelman and I am a first year teacher at Solomon Schools. I have officially taken over as the Tri-M state advisor and would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Marlo Zumbrunn who has been an example of excellence and excitement for this organization. I am so honored and enthused to work with all of the wonderful chapters in Kansas. My main goal is to expand our numbers and motivate all the current chapters to continue their hard work and strive towards building a better world for music in our schools.

During our annual Friday morning Tri-M meeting at KMEA we had the opportunity to listen and learn from Marcia Neal. She shared her presentation on "One is Too Small a Number to Achieve Something GREAT!" She spoke about using Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Confidence to create chapters that can do great things for their schools and for music. Kelsey Scheuerman, NAfME Collegiate President, shared with the students many exciting and fun details about college life and how to prepare to become a music education major.

During our sharing session we got to hear from Lindsay Modin, the Tri-M sponsor for Lakewood Middle School, the National Junior Tri-M Chapter of the Year 1st runner-up. We are very proud of them and our National Senior Chapter of the Year Piper High School! Kansas is so honored to have such amazing chapters leading the nation in music excellence and advocacy.

Due to the snowstorm many chapters were not able to attend but we were glad to see the Columbus High School chapter. For the second year in a row they won our coveted "M-ee" award with an original piece played on plastic bags.

Here are some very important deadline dates:

Kansas Chapter of the Year: All applications were be submitted by April 15, 2013.

National Chapter of the Year: All applications submitted by April 30, 2013.

Have a wonderful contest season and please let me know if I can help in any way!
