Music In Our Schools Month
March is Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM)
It is not too late to join in the 2013 Music In Our Schools Month celebration! The
2013 Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM) slogan is "Music Education
Orchestrating Success."
Schools are encouraged to sing all or any number of the 2013 Concert songs, view the student performances which will be on the NAFME website in March, have a school-wide sing-along, or a formal concert at any time during the entire month of March 2013Music In Our Schools Month. The official date and time for The Concert for Music In Our Schools Month is the second Thursday of March at 12:00 PM (CST). With participation no longer limited to one day, the Concert for Music in Our Schools Month provides a month long performance opportunity for students and a chance for music teachers to shine the community spotlight on the importance of school music programs. The concert video will be available on the NAfME website during the month of March free of charge. The song list, sheet music, and rehearsal tracks for the Concert songs are also available free of charge to NAfME members at musiced.nafme.org/concert. Program order: Alleluia Jubilate!, Cripple Creek, Peace Drum Song, The Power of Music, The Star-Spangled Banner, and Why We Sing. I would also like to invite all of you to attend Arts Days at the Capitol on Thursday, February 28th, 2013, 11:30 AM at the Dillon House. TO THE PEOPLE OF KANSAS, GREETINGS: WHEREAS, the study of music is a valuable component of social and cultural education; and WHEREAS, music education promotes a high level of self-expression and self-confidence; and WHEREAS, music production and performance are positive outlets for creative expression, reinforcing teamwork, communication, self-discipline and focus; and WHEREAS, the 2013 observance of Music In Our Schools Month recognizes the positive impact of music education on the future success of our young people; and WHEREAS, the Kansas Music Educators Association is concerned with maintaining and improving school music programs for all students regardless of their socio-economic status or their abilities; and WHEREAS, NAfME, The National Association for Music Education, has designated March 2013 as Music in Our Schools Month; now THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED, that I, Sam Brownback, Governor of Kansas do hereby proclaim the month of March, 2013, Music In Our Schools Month in Kansas and urge the observance this month as an opportunity to support the purposes and practices of music education and encourages teachers, parents, students, and all citizens to participate.
