Middle Level Choir
Deb Hill
KMEA Middle Level Choir Chair
The 2012 KMEA ISW is almost here! There are so many details in order to make an event like the ISW a success for everyone involved. Although "detail" can be defined as a small and subordinate part, when you are preparing yourself and your student(s) to participate in the All-State Middle Level Choir at the end of February, no detail seems small. Below are some of the details you have been waiting for:

Friday, February 24, check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. and rehearsal will begin at 8:30 a.m. The concert is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. Please keep in mind that these times may fluctuate very slightly and directors will receive an email with a finalized schedule closer to this date.

When you check in with your singer(s) in the morning, you will receive a t-shirt for each singer. Singers are to wear them with black slacks/skirts for the concert in the evening.

Music is to be memorized upon arrival on February 24.

Lunch will be provided for members of the choir. Teacher assistance is welcome and needed with escorting choir members to and from lunch; however, lunch is not provided for teachers.

Teacher assistance is needed with escorting choir members to the dress rehearsal. Details regarding the schedule will be emailed to you in the near future.

Parents and guests, who are not KMEA members and who are planning to attend the ISW, should obtain a Guest Pass for each member of their party. Guest Passes are available at the KMEA Registration Table in the Century II Connecting Lobby, which is located immediately south of, and adjacent to, the circular part of the Century II Convention Center.

Everyone attending the concert will be required to have a ticket. Tickets can be ordered online at www.wichitatix.com, clicking on the Event Calendar link and selecting the 2/24/12 KMEA 2012 Middle Level ACDA Choir event. Ticket cost is $7.00 per person.

Another important "detail" requiring your sensitivity and attention is the attendance of your singer(s). If you have a student who was selected for the honor choir and he or she is unable to participate, please notify me immediately so an alternate may be notified and allowed to participate. Please encourage your students to make the "detail" of preparation a priority in their lives.

Our guest conductor is David Brunner. David is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Central Florida, where he conducts the University Chorus and Chamber Singers, teaches courses in conducting and music education, and coaches composition students. Well-known for his compelling and dynamic work with singers of all ages, David has conducted women's, mixed, and men's All-State and regional honor choirs throughout the United States at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. An inspired teacher, he is also a popular clinician at choral festivals and educational workshops around the world. He is the recipient of yearly ASCAP awards since 1997 and is published exclusively by Boosey & Hawkes, Inc., which has released nearly one hundred of his compositions.

Attention to all of these details should provide your student(s) with an outstanding day of singing and music making. The students will create memories and experience moments that will shine in them for years to come!
